A newly launched student exchange scheme with the University of California at Berkeley (UC Berkeley) started this summer in APSS. Dennis Ho and Jennifer Ng from Master of Social Work programme in UC Berkeley visited Hong Kong and undertook fieldwork in Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service Centre – Integrated Community Centre for Mental Wellness (ICCMW) from 15 June 2015 to 14 August 2015 in Hong Kong via APSS.

During their placement in ICCMW, they met CEO Mr. Johnny Tsang and visited local and Macau agencies such as St. James Settlement, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Richmond Fellowship of Macau, Yee Lok Centre of Fuhong Society of Macau etc. They also participated in various community activities and conducted case observations.

Dennis Ho said, “In the past 2.5 months, I have been immersed in a completely new social work environment that has challenged me to learn and adapt quickly. It has given me increased confidence to be a competent MSW social worker when I return to the US and complete my social work education”.

Under this new exchange scheme, students from APSS and UC Berkeley are benefited from gaining rewarding overseas experience for the good of their social work study.
